Plugin problems
Hi,
I am having a issue with plugin downloads. I just installed 2 extensions, resynthesizer, which I downloaded from the Gimp site, and Python, I downloaded from the Python site. Both of them installed on my computer but neither of them shows up in Gimp, even after restarting Gimp and my computer. I put the resynthesizer in my cdrive, in the plugin folder. They are Not in my "filters"

Also I was confused cause prior to installing Python, It somewhat showed up in my filter list, but it said (console). I was not sure what that meant, then I just downloaded Python.

Thank you in advance for any help.

RE: Plugin problems
The most of resynthesizers filters appear under the gimp menu
Filters > Enhance >
-Heal-selection...
-heal-transparency,,,
-sharpen by synthesis...
& - uncrop...

with the exception of the main plugin under Filters > Map > Resynthesize...

Do these appear on your menus? If not check your other plugin folder

There are two pairs of script & plugins folder (put it in the wrong one or both and it won't show up/work correctly)

Did you unzip the plugin?

Your plugin folders should be (put the plugin in the "lib" one) :
\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins
\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

below, instructions on how to install the plugin if you dont have wndoze
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/GIMP/Instal..._directory

python : gimp 2.8.6 from their site already comes with python built-in you shouldn't have to install it. If you get errors using the filters from resynthesizer plugin, uninstall python then if needed reinstall gimp.

RE: Plugin problems
The resynthesizer definitely is not showing in Filters > Enhance >heal....nor is it listed in Map > Resynthesize, or in any Gimp menu. I moved it to the lib folder, still I am not seeing it in Gimp. Yes I unzipped it.

I know I should learn the basics before downloading plugins but the resynthesizer is too cool and too needed to wait. I am off to a bad start, I will work on the issues for a couple days. I will let you know if I still am having problems. Thanks I really appreciate you taking the time to help.

LOL, I agree 100% it is cool, if you don't get around to the basics, look here also, thats how I learned where to install the plugin-scripts.

Check where your default plugin folders are within gimp
Edit > Preferences > Folders > plugins (looks like a green puzzle icon)

via gimp registry's site:

RE: Plugin problems
@2013
You do not say which OS you use (but it sounds like windoze, assuming win7) or the type (32 or 64 bit, does not make a lot of difference for this) or the version of Gimp (assuming the latest) and where you got/version-of the resynthesizer plug-in (can make a difference).

As earlier posts, if you are using Gimp 2.8.x then there is no need for a separate installation of Python just for Gimp.

Not difficult, there are 2 resynthessizer plug-ins, resynthesizer.exe and and resynthesizer-gui.exe.
Then there might be several other python plugins 'some-name'.py
All of these go in your local C:\Users\'yourname'\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins
An all-in-one screenshot for reference. This is a Win7 64bit virtual machine.

Since you were looking at python, and assuming you want to use one of the python plug-ins that use resynthesizer. One of the most popular is heal-selection.py This does not go in the same menu location as resynthesizer. You find it in Filters -> Enhance

Again an all-in-one, make a selection on your image, run the plug-in, the inset shows the result.

RE: Plugin problems
Rich, yep something was not done right, I do not have those options in the Gimp filter Menu. But I do have them in my c drive folders. They are not transferring over to Gimp. I will work on it more this evening. Geez, I have been downloading things for years with no problem!!

As far as Python, it is also not in Filters -> Enhance. I will delete both of them and try again. Maybe I will leave Python out since I have some version of it in Gimp by default. I do not understand Python>console. So...my attchment below...that is all I need of Python? Thanks Rich

IForStyle, thanks I will try that this evening too.

Thanks for the help everyone is giving me, very appreciated.

1. What version of Gimp are you using and why did you think you needed to install python?
2. Forget about the python console in the filters menu. Only needed for testing/debugging, if you know how.
3. If you want a sure fire installation with resynthesizer and lots-&-lots of other scripts/plugins, go and install Parthas version of Gimp 2.8.6 (32 bit or 64bit)

RE: Plugin problems
Hi Rich,
I am using 2.8.6 and using windows 7. I read someplace on the web that in order to use resynthesizer you need to have Python installed. If that is false than great, I will get rid of Python for now...less to think about just starting out here. I will try Parthas version, wow thanks again.

RE: Plugin problems
Got it!!! I uninstalled Gimp, and installed "Parthas version" (Thanks Rich). Actually it is an earlier version. 2.8.2. After it installed I went back on the website and downloaded the "useful plugins 64 bit". It went into the Gimp menu with no problem. Wish I could have been smart enough to apply what you guys were trying to tell me, but I am much relieved. Thanks again soo much. Highly appreciated. The resynthesizer is really neat!!
