Pasting on blank canvas
I am a brand new user. I have a photograph of a picture frame whose top and bottom edges of the ornate frame are missing I wish to copy either of the side edges of the frame and, after suitably extending and angularly cropping their ends, paste them adjacently to the top and bottom edges of the image, make the image appear to be wholly framed. I firstly enlarged the area of the canvas and then selected one side of the frame and tried to paste it in the white area of the canvas without success. I have pictured the white part of the canvas as a "piece of paper" that can accept pasting. Must be wrong - what must I do please?

Kind regards
