Pasted Layer Not Visible
I was working in Gimp last night with no problems at all. I modified an image of some fabric to create a texture then pasted that texture into another image and had happy results. I'm trying to do it again tonight with a different texture I created but when I try to paste it into the other image the pasted layer is not visible. The layer transparency is set to 100, and, of course, the 'show layer" eye is clicked. Where am I going wrong here? I know it's something simple but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

RE: Pasted Layer Not Visible
How did you create the "pasted layer"? "Edit/paste as new layer", or plain paste (or Ctrl-V) and "Create new layer" to convert the "floating selection" into a new layer?

RE: Pasted Layer Not Visible
I have the same sort of problem.

I opened an image (a png with color in the middle surrounded by transparency).

I used Image->CanvasSize do double the size of the canvas. The color remained where it was, and I got an extra area of transparency below it.

I selected the coloured area and did copy (Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V). Then I tried to drag the pasted selection down to the new area. As it crossed into the new area, the pasted section "disappeared", as if it was going "behind" the transparency.

Hopefully this description is clear enough what I want to do. The symptoms sound like the OP's: pasted stuff not being visible.

I've tried pastsing into new layers and all sorts of combinationns, but can't crack it...

Hah - I cracked it, reading a nearby post about the Move tool.

It moves the background layer, not the active layer. Wow, what a gotcha!

You double the canvas size, but your existing layers keep their size. And you can only paste on a layer, not in the void. One solution is to make the layer fill the image ("Layers/Layer to image size"). If you create a new layer from what you paste it should work
