Pasted images have black backgrounds
I am trying to paste an image into a comic I am making on GIMP. The image I am pasting is just a white face outlined in black. The background of the image before pasting (on the original site) is white (or maybe transparent). However, when I paste the image onto GIMP, the background changes to black, which envelops the black outline and ruins the picture. How can I paste this image so that the background remains white/transparent?

RE: Pasted images have black backgrounds
Works for me:
- find PNG/GIF with transparency on the web
- Firefox -> copy image to clipboard
- Gimp -> paste as new layer
- transparency is kept

So that could be a problem with your image (which isn't as transparent as you think) or with the method used.
- can you post the image or a URL to it?
- where to you copy it from? Browser? Open in some image editor (Gimp or else)?
- how do you paste it?

Here's the URL http://alltheragefaces.com/face/surprised-open-mouth

I'm copying it from Google Chrome. I'm just right clicking the picture and clicking "Copy Image". Then I go to GIMP and press Ctrl + V.

RE: Pasted images have black backgrounds
Works with Firefox (transparent) but not with Chrome (black) (all this on Linux). So my conclusion is that Chrome fills the background when copying to the clipboard. You shouod be able to save the PNG to disk and then "File/Open as layer" to include it in an open image in Gimp.

RE: Pasted images have black backgrounds
Yes, saving the image and then using "Open as Layers" works. Thank you so much!

RE: Pasted images have black backgrounds
Looking closer... if I copy/paste from FF, the transparent pixels are transparent black. If I save to disk and load in Gimp, the transparent pixels are transparent white. Might be worth filing a bug against Firefox.
