Paste In ?
Hi,
As a newbie and very tech ignorant, I was hoping someone might be kind and patient enough to give me a step by step on how to drop one image into another.I belief though am not sure it is called pasting in.I have opened the image into which I want to dropand tried paste into in edit but nothing happened??
I am sorry if this is asilly question but I struggle to understand at times.Thank you.

RE: Paste In ?
Paste into: bad idea Smile

Usual procedure: just do Paste (Ctrl-V). This create a temporary layer called a "floating selection". You can do several things with it: move/scale/rotate/shear... but while it is a floating selection you can't do anything to the rest of the image (nor paint it). So sooner or later you want to make it a bit more permanent. You can either create a new layer from it (menu "Layer/New layer" or Ctrl-Shift-N) or merge it into the layer active when you pasted (menu "Layer/anchor" or Ctrl-H). it is usually a good idea to keep it as a separate layer because further refinement can be necessary (adjust colors, exact alignment, etc...).

You will more clearly see things if you open the Layers dialog (menu "Windows/Dockable dialogs/Layers" or Ctrl-L)

RE: Paste In ?
One simple solution that doesn't involve copy/paste is to open the flower, and then to use "File/Open as layers" to load the butterfly in another layer. With some luck you can even drag the butterfly picture from your file navigator onto your flower image in Gimp to the same effect.
