Paintbrush keeps dragging/lagging, How do I fix it?
Sorry, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this.

After I use GIMP for awhile, the pen tool lags. I though it was a problem with the program, so I downloaded the latest version. (I had 2.6.6, now it's 2.6.11)
THe problems still there. Anyone have ideas on how to fix it?

Known problem... it's a general problem of performances with brushes that should be addressed in 2.8 as far as I know. Some brushes are more prone to this than others. Also experiment with scaling (I don't remember if it's better to scale up a small brush or to remain around scale 1.0 as much as possible, but I remember that as a factor).

Try turning off "Smooth Stroke" under individual paint tool options. worked for me.

Dogeye,

another possible workaround that I like to use

Enable the "Undo History" window dock
Windows > Dockable Dialogs > Undo Hisotry...

*WARNING*: Be sure to back up your original project and work on a copy project file.

There is a broom icon that deletes all the undo states. You can purge the undo states whenever the brush starts to lag. It tells you how much space you freed up before you confirm.

You can then use that info to see how much memory each of your brush strokes takes up.
Depending on the resolution of the file your working on, experiment on length of brush strokes. It could help to lower the softness of the brush (2. Hardness 100)
Each completed brush stroke(mouse-clicked to unclick) is saved as an undo state.
