overlapping layers???

Question overlapping layers???
hi, I'm using gimp and I've just started working on a new project. i have 2 layers, and theya re overlapping. Is there any way to cut the overlapping parts without doing manually?

If what you mean is "remove from one layer the part that overlaps another layer":

- select second layer
- Layer/Transparency/Alpha to selection (will create a rectangular selection from the layer)(*)
- Select the other layer
- make sure ist has an alpha channel
- Delete: this will make it transparent where it overlaps the other one
- If necessary and possible: Layer/autocrop layer: crops the layer to the smalles possible rectangle that holds all the non transparent pixels.

(*) This assumes that the layer has no transparent parts, otherwise duplicate the layer and bucket-fill it to create another layer that will be fully opaque and use it for the selection.
