Opening screen
    Hello,
I have posted in the past about my opening screen and I think I haven't explained my problem in a clear way, so I am including a screenshot to maybe clear things up.

This is such a basic question I am almost ashamed to ask it but I have tried.

My question is: What is wrong with this picture and can you tell me how to correct it?

Thanks,
Angster

RE: Opening screen
Is this a laptop with a 'something' x 786 pixel display?
The default Gimp windows for 'Toolbox' and 'Layers, Channels, Paths' (LCP) will fill the display. The image window however will be smaller that that shown.

Easy to fix, same as any Windoze app, you can resize by clicking and dragging on an edge, also for Gimp there is a hot-spot between the LCP dialogs and the tool selection windows.

Drag around until you get what you want. Now go into the Edit menu -> Preferences -> Window Management. You can leave 'as-is' and the windows positions are saved for the next time or IMHO a better option is click the 'Save window positions now' and untick the 'Save on exit' box.

The other snag with Win is the image window under the other two. I think there are utilities to fix this, not sure. If you are working on a large image and the Tools & LPC are in the way, hit the tab button and they minimise, again to bring them back.

RE: Opening screen
I see two problems
1 The image window is under the toolbox and other docks despite it being the active window
2 The toolbox and other dock is under the Windows taskbar

To control how the toolbox and other docks windows appear relative to the image window have a look at Edit >> Preferences >> Window Management and change the "Hints"

You should also be able to set the positions of the windows and then save those positions as rich2005 says

RE: Opening screen
Thank you all very much. Just finding the windows management was all it took.
