Opening Raw Files
A couple of times I was able to successfully open RAW (Canon CR2) files as layers to stitch together, but now when I try to open a RAW file I get error messages (see attached screenshot). Any ideas?

RE: Opening Raw Files
OK, I downloaded the UFRaw plugin and it opens my CR2 files just fine, but how do I get the RAW files transferred over to GIMP so that I can go to work on stitching the images together??

By the way, I downloaded the Hugin program but I couldn't get it to install on my Windows XP OS... is there a trick to that?

RE: Opening Raw Files
I figured out how to convert my RAW files into layers, but good grief GIMP is fighting me all the way, so I think I'll give up on GIMP and try something else.

Thanks for your help Ofnuts.

RE: Opening Raw Files
""Try "open as layers". But IMHO you aren't doing it the right way.
1) prepare the files in UFRaw and store them as JPG.
2) Once you have a set of JPG, use "Open as layers" to load them.""

When I want to convert my CR2 files into JPG form I use Irfanview, so that really isn't a problem, but I wanted to stitch my images together in RAW form with GIMP, and like I said I finally figured out how to do so, but for a dummy like me GIMP seems to be so non-intuitive to use so I'm going to try something else (see below).

""For Hugin, make sure you have a Windows version.""

Yep, I do.

""Note, since you use CR2 files, you have a Canon, and the Canon cameras come with a CD, and the CD contains, among other things, two useful pieces of software:
1) Digital Photo Professional (aka DPP): processes you CR2 files
2) autostitch: panorama software""

I bought the camera (XT) used and it didn't come with the CD's, and Canon makes it difficult to find DPP on their web site to download, so I'm not even going to bother.

But having said all that, last night I happened to stumble into a program called AutoStitch, which is a small program that does what I think is an amazing job automatically stitching together images, and seeing as I only have the need to do occasional stitching, I think I'm going to be happy with AutoStitch for now.

Thank you for all your advice Ofnuts... you've been very helpful. :>)
