"open with"
My laptop did crash about 10 days ago. My D: drive was gone, so was my C: drive. Now everything has been mostly recovered but...all the pictures I have saved would now open in Windows Photo Viewer. I right click on one of them and then click on "open with". Gimp isn't there so I click on "choose default program". Gimp still isn't there. So, I click on "other programs". Gimp still isn't there so I click on "browse". Gimp 2 is there but...if I click on it and then on "open", all I get is tons of choices like: 32 - bin - ect - lib - libexec - Python - share - uninst. What one is suppose to do with that? Thanks!

RE: "open with"
I'm not sure of the exact location since I'm on portable gimp(vista) right now (different folder structure) But the below will help find it Smile
First, Check in the "32" , "bin" and "share" folder

Do you have a gimp shorcut on the desktop?
Right-click on it
Look for "open in location" or click on properties.

That will take you to where the program file is, then look for that in the "open with... browser.

RE: "open with"
The executable is in "bin" folder. Should be something like "gimp-2.#.exe" depending on your version.

Ah, I child of Micro$oft, Windoze should be renamed "click-n-wish"

Some screenshots , A clean Gimp 2.8.6 installation in a basic Win7 (32bit) VM

1. Probably missed your chance of an easy solution when you installed Gimp. The customise option has a section for associations. If you missed that during the installation then there should be in the right-click context menu an "open-with-gimp" option.

2. What you have already tried. Same right-click menu but Open with and Choose default program.

3. That gets you to a dialogue like this where Windows Picture Viewer is the default application, so click on browse.

4. That gets you to the bit you are looking for, C:\Program Files\Gimp 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe

5. When you get to the final dialogue, make sure Gimp is selected and 'Always use..' is ticked before OK-ing.

The snag is you will have to do this for each different type graphics file, jpeg, png, tiff. I would stick with the main ones, For everything else, do what most people do, start Gimp then open the image from the Gimp file menu.

RE: "open with"
Thanks! I had to click on "Gimp2" then on "bin" and then on "gimp-2.8" and it finally showed. I'm pretty sure I did try this in the past but...
