open images in thumbnail size
My gimp opens all images in small thumbnail size (160 120). How can I get rid of this and get the files opened in their original size. I am running ubuntu 11.04 and gimp 2.6.11, and utilizing .NEF (nikon raw)

I have tried to remove $HOME/.gimp-2.6 - that didn't seem to help.
I have installed and uninstalled ufraw - that didn't seem to help
I have looked at gimp preferences, don't see there anything which would define reading in images into "thumbnail" size.

I am suspecting that after installing ufraw this problem appeared and I seem not be able to get rid of it. Removing $HOME/.ufrawrc didn't help

Any suggestions what to look ?

RE: open images in thumbnail size
Normally if you open a RAW file with Gimp (NEF for Nikon, CR2 for Canon), the image actually opens in UFRaw, and shows up (full size) in Gimp only after you've depressed the OK button in UFRaw.

If all you get in Gimp are thumbnails, I suspect your UFRaw plugin isn't working, and Gimp somehow finds the built-in thumbnail in the file and opens that. It could also be that your camera is too recent and UFRaw doesn't recognize its specific format.

Believe that was my problem. After now rebuilding ufraw from tar.gz, installing it as "make install" gimp seems to find it and does exactly how you describe above. This leaves me thinking how could I have checked what plugins gimp loads and what plugins (and from where) it should have been able to load for .nef files.

But that's I guess another topic/thread - so thank you for your quick comments.

btw, was using D5000 .NEFs.

RE: open images in thumbnail size
gimp --verbose in a terminal sessions says a few things... it is not very explicit about what is loaded, but when there are problems you may find related messages there. You can also have some clues about where Gimp gets stuck when loading.
