No offline Help - 10 out of 10 for stupidity
All other software programmes of note have Help flies included in Setup by default - you click Help and you get help. But Gimp has to be different. It forces users to go online every time they need help. Even then you have to download the Windows installer for the wonderful privilege of being able to open the Gimp manual direct - online, of course.

The only reason I'm using Gimp is for its text editing and the ability to save projects - something that's painfully lacking in other free imaging programmes.

But no offline Help? Pff!

Well that is not true. There does seem to be an issue when the help file language does not match the Gimp 'locale'. Did you check the help setup and see if a local version was available.

might help

I'm using 2.8.2 for MacOS from the Gimp website and it does not come with help files installed. In Prefs|Help it says "The manual is not installed locally"

Never used Mac, but AFAIK Gimp has never included the local help file. Same as the Gimp application it is the work of enthusiasts and 'local help' does tend to lag behind the online version.

Going to version 2.4 there was a 'several-languages' installable help and it got up to 64 MB. Later versions were split into individual languages of a more reasonable size.

You will need to ask the Mac people if there is a local-help installable package.

It might be worth a trying a 'hack'. The gimp local-help is all html and should work on any OS. If you have a 'wget' in Mac then try a download from the online gimp and pop the folder into the gimp file system. I have done this before in linux.

An alternative if you need something offline (only Italian or English) is a PDF Gimp help from
