Hi,
I have known GIMP for a long time, but always on a distance.
But for some reason I did all my 'work' with Paint, Irfanview and some simple tools I wrote in JAVA.
Now that I have decided to leave the MSWindows environment and are moving to OSX
I just have to look around.
Do hope that GIMP is the right choice for what I do.

Welcome to the forums

Goodluck with the transition, as far as I've seen from submissions on the forums & researching mac problems gimp doesn't play nice with OSX. (mavaricks as I recall as one of the problems)

Oh and if your a first time mac user, get used to thinking "this is backwards" closing, minimizing, menus...

windows 8 is nice and with the new 8.1 they've catered to the classic desktop/power users with an added boot to desktop & customizable options. If you're switching from MS environment to OSX because of win8, you might just like the additions of win8.1. Plus your gimp will run with less bugs Smile

You don't really say WHAT you use gimp for, but since you've known it for long and if your doing photo/2d graphic editing, then yes, it will do nicely Smile

RE: New Member
After 20 years of MSWindows I'm completely fed up.
So, I went back to the origin of Windows and the UNIX underneath.
If you say that GIMP is not very well on Mavericks I have to reconsider ...
