My Genius Pen Tablet is messing up on GIMP
I went into input devices and set my tablet's mode to screen. I tried adding DirectX Direct input to the active controllers in the preferencess, but when I do it, I can't select Device for the device option though, and it says "no device configured", I don't know if this affects anything. When I try to draw, the cursor goes to the top edge of the the drawing area and off the picture and then it does this thing were it thinks I'm middle clicking, but I'm not and my pen button settings are okay.

I'm using Windows 8.1. I went to device manager>human interface devices>Pen tablet driver for HID minidriver and double clicked on it and it says it's working properly, and I tried update driver software and it says it's up to date.

The only thing I can think of is to use Mypaint, but I'd rather use GIMP and I can't afford any other program right now, and I don't want to use any program like Paint.net because I want pressure functions.

Looks as though it is a common problem...

I've tried the first thread and it's still messing up.

The second thread I didn't, he used "xinput" for it and said he wasn't sure if it'd work, where can I get "xinput" and is it free? I searched Google, but found nothing.

The 3rd thread isn't my problem, it isn't that the pen isn't giving pressure it's that the pen is drawing off of the image.

EDIT: I tried updating the tablet driver and it said it's up to date.

What is the model number of your Genius Tablet?

What is the driver version number you have installed?

I just visited the Geniusnet.com website and looked in the download section for the i608 drivers.
The latest version I could see for Win8 was 5.02.
In that zip download, there was a pdf manual on the driver config software.
After a quick read, I assume you have access to similar software Control Panel->Tablet Setting.
Have you checked the settings there? Maybe Scope or Monitor Settings...

As you may appreciate without Win 8.1 or the actual Genius tablet, I am limited in what I can suggest/test.

I re-installed the driver from their site and I had to reboot. I had trouble logging back in and got locked out for 13 minutes. Apparently I accidentally put a "`" at the end of my name. After re-installing it still shows version 5.3.1.0, I don't understand how I could have a driver updated past the one on that site.

I messed with my tablet scope an monitor settings by trying Full Monitor, Portion of Monitor, and Monitor 1 for monitor; and Full Area, Screen Ratio, and Preserve Edges for scope, but it still doesn't work.

Okay, thanks for the replies.

They're way too expensive, the cheapest I can find for a screenless tablet like mine is 80$; I could get a Genius tablet for 30$. I can't afford to get a new one right now anyway, and I'm more willing to use another free program for pressure sensitivity than to spend 80$ just so I can use pressure sensitivity on GIMP.

Anyone else have any ideas on how I could fix this?

Plucking at straws now...
This is not likely to solve your issue but I have heard of conflicts between the Windows Tablet Input Service and some brands of tablets.
It is quick and easy to test and just as quick to revert back if it doesn't.

Exit Gimp
Go to 'Services' then scroll down and locate 'Windows Tablet Input Service'
Click on it and then 'stop' the service.
Start Gimp.
Try your Tablet

If it makes no difference or makes things worse, restart the 'Windows Tablet Input Service' again.

I looked in Services.msc and in Taskmanager's services but couldn't find Windows Tablet Input Service anywhere.

I'm going to stop bumping this thread (I'll respond to replies though). If this thread dies out, I'll wait a while and come back to it someday.

RE: My Genius Pen Tablet is messing up on GIMP
Hi Dragon3025,
Here's my 2 cents. (hopefully someone else can throw in other ideas)

Does your computer have a touchpad mouse?
If so, try temporarily disabling it before you plug in your tablet.

A drawing tablet is kind of like a precise mouse as you can also click programs & stuff, using it like an actual mouse.

Also, try plugging in your tablet before you start Gimp.

No, it uses a wired optical mouse. I also already made sure I plugged in the tablet before starting Gimp, but it still happens.
