moving layers with arrow keys question (or problem)
why does a layer move more slowly when using the arrow keys on the keyboard if the layer is a 'floating selection'? my Gimp moves layers MUCH more quickly when using the arrow keys if I go to 'to new layer' first!!! is this a problem or to be expected??

mine moves over WAY FASTER as a layer!!! it is visually noticeable!!!!

EDIT: maybe it is because I hold down the arrow key

- zoom on it, and center where the line hits the ruler
- check that striking the arrow keys moves the line by one pixel on the ruler per key press

Then Copy/Paste. You are now looking at the floating selection
- check that striking the arrow keys still moves the line by one pixel on the ruler per key press

Holding down the arrow will not generate a different repeat rate for layer/floating selection. The keyboard driver doesn't know you're using Gimp and even less that you are looking at a layer or a floating selection.

then I have a problem on my hand!!!

No, floating layer from my exp can be kinda unstable I wouldn't recommend you move it around too much before making it a layer.

Floating layer is like the "clipboard" or limbo of gimp, & with your version of gimp / computer being temperamental often, lol, I don't think you could move it for long(as a floating layer) before Gimp has a fit and hangs or crashes on you.
