Moving a selection with lots of layers
Hi, I just started using GIMP the other day, and it's great; I've already gotten the hang of layers and moving stuff around! But sometimes, after I put together a part of an image using multiple layers, I'd like to move that part somewhere else to give me more room or to put it next to something else. Is there a way to do this without going through each of the layers, selecting the part, and moving the part to its destination layer by layer?

Thanks for the response! However, I did the following:
1. Chain the layers together (they're already in a layer group, actually)
2. Select the area using a rectangle select
3. Try to move the selection somewhere else with ctrl+alt and dragging it to where I want it to be

This doesn't seem to do anything different for me compared to without chaining, so I must be doing something wrong. Afterwards, I tried:

1. Select the layer group in the Layers - Brushes window
2. Select the area using a rectangle select
3. Try to move the selection somewhere else with ctrl+alt and dragging it to where I want it to be

Doing so doesn't do anything, and displays an error on the bottom: "Cannot modify the pixels of layer groups." Perhaps I'm using the wrong version? I don't know where to find the version number to check it with the current version.

Edit: Actually, never mind; I realized that you meant the move tool in the Toolbox, not the shortcut that moves pixels to different locations. Doing the first thing moved the part just the way I wanted it to. Not sure why ctrl+alt shouldn't work either, but at least my problem is solved. Many thanks!
