Monoprice tablet does not work
Hello there, I'm using gimp 2.8 with a Monoprice tablet, Gimp does recognize the table but it crashes as soon I activate it at the input devices. So I can not use the tablet.
I'm using a windows 7 64 bit OS
Also a Mac Book and Gimp recognized the tablet but stills working like a mouse pad...
What can I do???? Huh

RE: Monoprice tablet does not work
Have you downloaded the latest drivers from UC Logic (the manufacturer) and are you using Gimp 2.8.6?

I have a Monoprice 8x6" tablet that didn't work with an earlier 2.8 version so I switched to 2.6.

A month or so ago, I downloaded 2.8.6 to check it out and decided to give the tablet another try. I made sure I had the latest drivers first. It's working fine, I can plug it in, use it for awhile then unplug it and use the trackpad for other stuff, all with no problem. I don't know if it was the drivers or the Gimp version or Windows 7 updates that made the difference. Or maybe Jupiter aligned with Mars for all I know.

Au contraire, mon frere, mine--a Monoprice 8x6--is working fine with 2.8.6. See above.

LarsPiongo,
Basically a tablet works like a mouse in the same function. A workaround, for now to prevent gimp crashing is to instead, in the system mouse settings, adjust your mouse mouse sensitivity/cursor speed *AFTER* you plug in your tablet in win 7. This will make the pointer more precise in a way, gimp 2.6 has pressure sensitivity that might work with your tablet if you can revert to that.

If you plan to test with 2.6, try to download the portable version so you don't have to uninstall your 2.8 one. You can run the portable version from its folder after unzipping if needed.

You could try testing out your tablet with 2.8.6 or even 2.6, see which works best for your specific tablet since you didn't state what model of monoprice?

Maybe after that I can do a little research on your model(not right away I have to work Thursday morning, since I already know what OS your using(win7 64 bit)

1 size doesn't always fit all. If of said it was buggy it probably is, he's been using & programming in gimp for quite awhile.

Buggy doesn't have to mean completely non-functional, just some issues minor or major(crashes) If you notice, Lars said it did recognize and was able to draw with the tablet, its just when he/she goes to enable it through gimps input devices that it crashes.

RE: Monoprice tablet does not work
You obviously know more about this stuff than I do, but...

1. All Monoprice tablets are made by UC Logic and all the UC Logic tablets have the same driver, according to their site.

2. The only program I use the tablet with is Gimp. And when I'm not using it, I unplug it and stash it because it takes up too much space.

3. When I first got it I had Gimp 2.8.4 and I could not get the tablet to work with the program. This was a known issue and I wrote a post about it back in May or thereabouts. I changed to 2.6 and the tablet worked okay.

4. Now, with 2.8.6 all I have to do is plug it into the USB port and it works fine, no enabling input devices or anything, no crashes, just plug and play. And I have the same operating system, Windows 7, 64bit.

5. I've had several Windows updates in the intervening time so I don't know if it's the updated Windows, the latest Gimp release or the latest drivers, all I know is now I just plug and play.

6. I'd be curious to know what Lars' Gimp version is. We have the same OS and tablets made by the same manufacturer with the same drivers. The only difference MAY be the Gimp version. When I downloaded 2.8.6 and plugged in the tablet, I was surprised that it was working without my doing anything.

RE: Monoprice tablet does not work
I just got the Monoprice 10x6.25 tablet and I could not get it to work with the latest version 2.8.8. I tried every recommendation that I found on the forum and nothing would work. Every time I went to use the pen Gimp processed it as a right click. I uninstalled it and installed 2.6.12 and bam, it worked perfectly from the start.

Windows 8 64bit
Monoprice 10x6.25 with UC-Logic's latest driver version
Driver was installed per monoprice's instructions. Install driver first, reboot then connect the tablet.

There you go ^_^ 2.6 seems to be an almost bug free version albeit a bit outdated, more compatible for tablets right now.

There could be an incompatibility with gimp 2.8.6 & 2.8.8 & monoprice tablets.

So if you're happy ok with using 2.6 for now great Smile !

You're not alone with incompatibility as reviewers for your tablet have similar issues with pressure sensitivity & the tablet not working on gimp 2.8

RE: Monoprice tablet does not work
Yea, I'm happy it works fine with 2.6. For what I need 2.6 is more than enough. The good news is that since it works in 2.6 it's obviously some new change in 2.8 that broke it so hopefully it should be easy enough to fix.
