Menu Right to Left [Bug??]
Running 2.8 under win 7 ultimate.
After installation I immediately moved to single window mode & found something very strange: the menu at the top (you know, File Edit etc) is pushed to the right & reads from right to left (ie File is the right most option, Edit is on it's left, then Select etc)
Really ANNOYS me.
How can I change it???
One further bit of info.
I live in Israel. I have 2 languages installed: English & Hebrew (which is R2L). My primary language is English.

Same problem here. I'm running on a Win7 64 bit with Hebrew enabled. It's impossible to work like this. Really annoying RTL menus bug.
Please let me know if you find a way to override this bug,

Thanks,
Ron

After opening the bug, I was contacted by Massimo, one of the GIMP developers, who suggested I try setting the following environment variable:
LC_ALL=en

This worked like a charm and fixed the erroneous behavior.
This is a great workaround until the bug is officially resolved.
I hope this helps.

I have no idea what this means "Massimo, one of the GIMP developers, who suggested I try setting the following environment variable:
LC_ALL=en"

Where and how would I do this? I am running Gimp 2.8.6 under Windows 8.

Thanks

RE: Menu Right to Left [Bug??]
Not too sure who is in this thread at the moment but I think richard@lpagroup.biz

It could be more complicated than just the environmental variables.

Are you using a Persian keyboard? Keyboards have firmware that tells the OS its language. Next is Win8 which for me is a complete unknown.
It seems to work for that hebrew keyboard so the environmental variable is worth a try.

If you do not want to mess in the control panel one of the suggestions in that bug report was to start Gimp from a terminal.

Dont know about Win 8 but in Win 7 it can be fired up by typing cmd in the search box.
the command set will list the variables.
set LC_ALL=en was the suggested variable
to start gimp you need the full path in quotes because of the spaces.
"C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe"

If you get a result then go for a more permanent fix or maybe a batch file with the 2 command lines.

RE: Menu Right to Left [Bug??]
another way to solve this problem
(which is also better for portable gimps)
if to create a BAT file (or, if gimp starts from a BAT file, like "run_gimp.bat")

Edit the file and add the SET command that was mentioned before.
My "run_gimp.bat" looks like this:

Code:
@echo off
SET PATH=%~dp0bin\
set LC_ALL=en
start gimp-2.9.exe %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
