Mapping problem.
Hi all. Got a problem here with the map to object filter, or maybe it's just a case of it can't do what I want it to. I thought it best to ask here to find out for sure.

.xcf  s.xcf (Size: 146.5 KB / Downloads: 45)

The circle at the top and in the foreground is the one that I want to map to a cylinder, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get ride of the other two circles, the one at the bottom and the one in the background. I can erase them after the mapping's finished but I was hoping to find a way to prevent them appear in the first place. Cheers.

RE: Mapping problem.
Hard to tell because you are giving us a screenshot of the dialog and not the full XCF project with the layer... When mapping to a cylinder, "map object" expects three different layers, one of the cylinder itself (active layer when map object is called) and one for each caps (can be the same for both).

Note: for screenshots PNG are best, XCF are better used to post the whole work so we can see th evaroius layers/selections/etc..

RE: Mapping problem.
Thanks for the reply.

I'll run through the mapping process again, making sure there are the correct amount of layers and that the right one is active. If it still doesn't work I'll post a screenshot of the whole project.

RE: Mapping problem.
Okay, I'm still stuck, and have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Here's a couple of screenshots, hopefully there's enough information on them.

Basically I want to map the red band to the cylinder. There will be a red band at the top as well but I have to get the bottom one to work first. Any advice gratefully received. Cheers

RE: Mapping problem.
You misunderstand how the "map object" filter works. It won't wrap a layer on an existing object. For a cylinder, it "rolls" the current layer into a cylinder, so, i you want a white cylinder with two bands, you imagine it open and flattened:

Of course, if you are extremely accurate, you can roll several layers separately but even then you'll have problems with transparent areas not overlaying properly.

Cheers, ofnuts, I see it now. I was trying to do the impossible, no wonder it wouldn't work. Thanks for your help.

Edit: I just tried your system and it works fine but I couldn't get the ends to be transparent so I thought I'd come back and ask another question, but then I looked at the screenshot and there was the answer staring me in the face.
