RE: Map to object crashed HELP!!!!
Ok, I'm guessing your OS is Windows, is it Win 7? and is it 32 or 64 bit?
Which version of Gimp?
Has this filter ever worked for you?

Can you provide a screen snapshot of the actual Windows error by following the instructions given in post #3 of this thread.

You don't need to guess the OS. It's Win Vista. 32 bit. GIMP 2.8. It has worked for me since I downloaded it until now! My computer is Chinese :O

Hi,
Thanks for your OS info.
You say Gimp 2.8 but which version of 2.8? 2.8.nn
Are you able to use the link I provided in the previous post to find the Windows Event message?
I'm not familiar with Vista to know whether that same method works like in 7.
If not perhaps you know your OS well enough to find the Event to snapshot the details of the crash?
Does the Map to Object plugin crash on any image or just that particular one.
Exactly at which point does it crash?
Perhaps attach the .xcf file your are using and the input values you are using that makes the plugin fail so we can test here.

Ok, so it's the same route to find the reliability and it crashed at 15th August. It crashes on that image for some reason. Maybe it's because it's half transparent? The exact point has been shown in my screenshots. The sourc of the file is from scratch.mit.edu. It's a website that allows you to program. I made a project with the photo in the project but not on my computer. So I saved it to my local file. Then I wanted to map it but this happened. THe photo is .png. I attached another screencap of the method you told me and I told you that my laptop is in Chinese (I'm a CBC :O). So at the bottom of the picture you can see map-object.exe, version : 2.8.10.0 (My GIMP version). On the right it means error type which is "stopped working". On its right it's the date obviously. (Plz don't judge my poor translation).

If I may interject for a second.

Does any other filter / plugin crash on that green image?

I also see the process "tdxW.exe" pops up with the gimp crash. Do you know what that proccess is / does?

Also, searching the gimp crash with tdxw brought up this thread, one of the recommendations is increasing your tile cache memory (mbs) in Gimp.

- Make the size of it about 40% or more of your RAM (example, you have 2 gigs of ram, so about 1500 mbs,)

Thanks Elite Warrior. Didn't realise that English was not your first language... Wink

Almost there, just need two more things...
In the 'Reliablility' window, where it says 'map-object.exe', double click on that and it will display details on the error.
See a similar example from my computer below...

Also, can you provide screenshots of the Map To Object's filters settings as you enter them screen by screen...

RE: Map to object crashed HELP!!!!
Whilst awaiting your reply...
I can Map your Image to Sphere, Plane and Cylinder with out issue.

However, when I try Box, the preview takes a very long time to display.
When it eventually does display and I click Ok, the map-object.exe crashes with an Access Violation (error:0xc0000005) suggesting the plugin has an error (bug).
Maybe somebody knows of an error report, or an updated version of the plugin.

RE: Map to object crashed HELP!!!!
Guessing it is the 'box' object that is the problem. With OP supplied image; plane, sphere, cylinder all ok.
Using a 'clean' Win7 VM & Gimp 2.8.10 I can reproduce the error http://i.imgur.com/pv4MCNw.png
but
I can also get a result. A bit like first run of Gimp, set it going, do not move mouse, touch keyboard, look at it. The plugin is very cpu intensive.
Several minutes and it got there. http://i.imgur.com/qIC26c6.png
A same size image with solid colours rendered very quickly, so it is the OP image.

I had a similar problem with my linux installation round about Gimp 2.8.2 (or.4) Which prompted this.

The tdxW.exe is my dad's thing. It's a software about economics things blablabla.
Changing the size lags a lot for my laptop though, actually it's my dad's but anyway, the laptop lags very often for some reason :O.

English is my first language actually but my dad's speaks Chinese so this laptop is in Chinese Tongue.
Double clicking doesn't seem to work. Maybe it is in another place because I'm using win 7 vista home premium.
Well, its seems that mapping this img to a box will lag a lot. Hmm...
So can any1 help me map one as my laptop won't work well on it. Orientation, rotation x:30 y:45
.png format
thx

RE: Map to object crashed HELP!!!!
I found a way to use "box" map to object with less lag! (for those of you that still want to get the map to box to work or if OP still wants it to work, sort of)

*You will need to tinker with the perspective tool (Perspective) some though :\ but it looks good

Either flatten the image or right-click on the layer & click "remove alpha channel"

Something about the transparency in it makes it lag more than cylinder, sphere or plane, as previously mentioned by ofnuts & rich.

After you've flatten or removed the alpha channel, your left with a green texture(same) on white background.

1
Continue back to "map to object", & select "box". You should be able to []check on the live preview with less lag.
- Check []transparent background. You should now see a white & green box with the background transparent(checkered)
Then click the "orientation" tab to adjust the angles. Click ok when done

2 Use the Freeselect free select tool to one-by-one select each side visible of the box & duplicate it to its own layer (see attached .xcf)

3. On each side/face layer, do "Layer > Autocrop layer..."
then line up the sides to the 90 degree angles of the box layer using the perspective tool Perspective

4. Last, on the box layer do "Colors > Color to Alpha" pick white as the color
- Put this layer on top of all face/side layers.
Then if you want you can make each side "color to alpha" for it to be see through

I've attached my .xcf so you can have a hint of how its done
