Mandatory Registration
I don't mean to be inflammatory, but is it really necessary to have mandatory user registration on a help forum?

For as long as I've been on the internet I've wondered why help sites require you sign up before posting, even though 90% of the time you're only there to ask one question and then be on your way. It just seems like a waste of time. 90% isn't an exaggeration, by the way, I just looked through the member list and about that proportion of your members have less than ten posts (and 85% have less than five posts).

Yeah it only takes a minute to register, but that's still a lot longer than most people would like when they've just (often) spent an hour trying to get something to work. If you want to stop spambots, a CAPTCHA before making a post for unregistered users would be enough, and would take much less time than registering.

I'm fairly certain most forum software has support for guest posting, surely MyBB does as well. You could even make it so that guests can only post in the support boards - since that's really the only place they'd need to post - if the idea of having a bunch of unregistered users in the main discussion boards bothers you that much.

So, I don't get it. It's 2012, why are we still making people register accounts on help sites?

RE: Mandatory Registration
I think that people should be able to register to avoid the spammers who come all over forums. Maybe there should be a section just for guests to post help threads, people who aren't going to stay active for long.
