You can File->Open As Layers an existing image you have.
Then move that opened layer below your trophy layer.

Create a text layer containing the text in the required font/size.
Then try one of the many Bevel/Emboss/Engrave filters out there (Google is your friend) Personally I like
I am not sure what is in the standard Gimp now days as I have subsequently installed many filters. I think you will find a standard Bevel under the Filters->Distorts->Bevel. You may have to right click your text layer first and choose 'Alpha to Selection' before running the Bevel filter.

I notice you have not downloaded the zip file containing the xcf file with the full size trophies. Have you decided on a different image or approach for your trophies?
