making changes stay changed
Hi,
I got Gimp 2.4. I figured I would get an early version before it got too complicated.
I am missing something. Every time I use a tool like rotate, it keeps the old picture there and turns a new image around. Then when I select another tool like resize, the image goes back/ to it's original position????? Huh

Please help me. Blush

1) 2.4 is awfully old... current (recent) version is 2.8 (but still plenty of people running good ol' trusty 2.6). Following answer is for 2.6, but I doubt things have changed much ins this area since 2.4.

2) Many Transform tools (rotate/scale/shear display the transformation on a copy of the subject layer put on top of the layer stack (because that could be a layer buried deep down)(there is an opacity slider in the tool options to settle the opacity of this temporary layer). During the transform, you get an extra dialog window with the transform parameters (angle and center of rotation, for a rotation), and a Confirmation button ("Rotate" for rotation) that you have to click to keep the result of your interaction.
