Making a gif that shows middle portion of a word
and then the gif has the whole word slowly comes into focus.

Say shows the first letters 'NDAT' and as the letters get smallter the letters 'UNDATIO' show up and finaly 'FOUNDATIONS'

Do I have to make several layers of the word by hand (large fonts first) and then as I add layers the fonts get smaller so the whole word shows up?

Is there an easier way?

Thanks,

Deaf

You can use this script, step-resize-keeping-layers

Best go from large to small so start off with a single layer. http://i.imgur.com/T95lIQW.jpg

Then apply the script, it is in the menu as a script-fu next to filters, set a final width to suit http://i.imgur.com/9xjKn7X.jpg

You get as many layers as you specified, crop down to the smallest http://i.imgur.com/Fjt9LeG.jpg

Export as an animated gif. http://i.imgur.com/LwgCjyd.jpg

Remember to unzip the attachment. Pop it into your Gimp profile \.gimp-2.8\scripts

Thankyou rich2005 for referring to "Step-Resize" and giving detailed info.

That above plugin reminds me of this similar one I use to downscale "scale in steps"
