Making a bending metal pipe
I've searched all over YouTube for a video on this but can't find one. I've watched a few on how to in photoshop to get the general idea but I can't get it to look as good. The way I've seen is making a rectangle and filling w a gradient and copy/paste and move it over. My prob is when I rotate the image to make the bend and copy its copying the rotated image. Can anyone help me w this or is there another way that's easier? Thanks

I don't quite get the problem. Do you have a URL for the tutorial?

Search "tutorial-cable interface wires" in YouTube. It's a PS tut but that's what I'm trying to do. Thanks for the reply

RE: Making a bending metal pipe
Ok this what I'm trying to make. Think of a hose on a car (radiator hose) now think of one on a race car the ones that r not black and rubber but the ones that r like metal wire hoses. That's what I'm trying to make. If u know what I'm talking about make one and I'll tell u if it's what I want. And hopefully u can tell me how to make one.

RE: Making a bending metal pipe
Ok got it. So, your problem is when you are producing the multiple rotated parts for bends? I assume you are always rotating the initial element by gradually increasing angles, and not applying successive rotations using the last rotated element (this would create blur).

IMHO there is a much faster technique using a brush and a path, but it requires Gimp 2.7 or above, and it's a bit too long to explain right now.

RE: Making a bending metal pipe
Ya there has to be a faster way I agree. I made a .pat and .gbr and tried to fill a selection but the prob w that is everything I fill horizontal looks good but vertical looks bad.

RE: Making a bending metal pipe
The method I'm thinking about:
- create a brush (a bit like the first element in the tutorial, but widen the sides at the top to give it a slight butterfly shape).
- use the path editor to draw a path where the center of the braided hose should be.
- set the paintbrush to this brush, and use the brush dynamics settings that uses brush rotation (this option is new in 2.7)
- stroke the path using the paintbrush

See attachment. The brush used is the bottom layer, copied to the clipboard.

Doesn't wok too bad, especially considering that we are on rather sharp bend (bend radius: 200px, hose diameter: 80px).

Much faster than rotating/pasting it element by element. Requires Gimp 2.7 or above.
