Magic Eraser
Hi

Been playing with GIMP for a little while now and must say the more i use it the more i like it.

(I'm going to swear now so forum mods please be forgiving when i use the word Photoshop!)

The only + i see Photoshop has over GIMP for my small needs is the magic eraser button where you can opt for eraser tool, background eraser or the magic eraser. The magic eraser i find incredibly easy and efficient to use in getting rid of the whole background.

Unfortuantly i am either missing this in GIMP or it doesn't have this functionality. could someone clarify if there is an "all in 1 eraser" that will get rid of the whole background colour?

Thanks

Don't know PS much, but try to use color-to-alpha as described there: http://gimpforums.com/thread-proper-subj...d-painting especially post #3 (but with all due modesty, the rest is worth reading, it is the kind of background knowledge you need to have to work efficiently with Gimp (or PS)).

For more complex background, there is the foreground selector (Foregroundselect)(which really extracts the foreground, but that's equivalent)

+1 as you deserve credit for being polite to a newbie intrested in learning. Keep up the good work please as in my few days of being on here this forum would be harder work without the likes of you.

I get a lot of mileage on that one. It answers about one question out of five asked here Smile

Why should I insult newcomers? I'm French but I don't really look like this;
