Losing mouse control in 2.8
Hello, this is the first time GIMP got me worked up enough to register on a forum!

My problem is this: Whenever I start up GIMP (2.8, latest stable, Windows 7 64) it works alright for a short while, but very soon (usually after the first click of the mouse) I lose all ability to select control elements using my mouse or tablet. I can't select any instruments, summon any drop down menus, or even drag windows.

The application doesn't freeze, mind you: I can navigate through all menus using keyboard, I can input values using the same method etc. Also buttons handled by MSW rather than GIMP work just fine (e.g. I can close / minimize GIMP clicking on the corresponding button even if the rest of GIMP is busted).

Needless to say this means 1) I can't draw or use the canvas at all 2) The application is virtually useless in its current form.

I have no idea what induced this. I have tried reinstalls, deleting the .gimp folder in \Users, restarting the PC etc.

Also it's quite interesting that when I installed an old 2.6 version just to see what would happen, the problem wouldn't be replicated. So I suspect there's something wrong with 2.8 settings, something that can't be remedied by a simple reinstall?

In short, I'm positively baffled and my blood is beginning to boil, especially because I was planning to do quite a bit of work today.

Thanks in advance for any kind of help!

RE: Losing mouse control in 2.8
What make of tablet?
From the description it sounds like a buffer somewhere filling up.

This is a Win7 64bit VM with ancient Wacom Volito, even the pen pressure works

If you have any more than core pointer + 'tablet' entries ie. your mouse, worth a try setting that to disabled in the 'mode' options.

No up to date stats but there have been very many windows gimp 2.8 downloads that work well, so you are unique.

Gimp 2.6 does have better tablet support than 2.8. AFAIK the developers are aware of this but any improvement may be some time.
