Hey.

I've been using Mypaint for some time. Decided to install Gimp and give it a shot once again and I immediately remember why I left Gimp for other softwares. It lags sooooo much. My canvas isn't even that big (3000x1800), and only have 2 layers.

I'm running a quad core with 16gb of RAM, and Gimp is set up to utilise all the cores and 12gb of the RAM. Debian Wheezy.

I notice that it still doesn't use all the cores when painting, scrolling, and turning layers on/off. It seems to lag the most after editing a layer, such as turning on/off, resizing, cropping, etc. After it redraws a layer at snail pace the whole program gets so slow that it's unusable.

It's sad that as an exclusive GNU/Linux user for half a decade I still cannot recommend artists to switch to the platform. Please help. I want to like this software.

RE: Laaaaag
2.8.2

This is the second machine I've had that Gimp has shown poor performance on with a near fresh install. The lag is really bad. I can't get any work done in such an environment.

I made a thread a few years ago also about performance issues. http://gimpforums.com/thread-gimp-performance
