Kapow! Logo
Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read my message.

Im a complete newbie to GIMP - i did use photoshop at college years ago so have basic grasp of layers etc.

Im creating a website for a friend. he wants a logo like the following:

http://www.simonwestbrookdesign.co.uk/wp...kapow1.jpg

instead of Kapow! he wants it to say 'Fun & Funky'

Im pretty sure its the path tool i need to create the shape, but i am struggling to get to grips with it... a few pointers to get started would be much appreciated. I have started by setting up a grid at 35 px spacing to draw the points/anchors but im struggling to get going.

also, once i get going (lol) im not sure how to change the path to a solid line, alter the thickness and ultimatley fill the end-shape with colour.

any help, or just a kick start in the right direction would sincerely be appreciated.

many thanks all.

RE: Kapow! Logo
i would recommend using Inkscape instead of Gimp for this job

easier to use Paths Tool
fully scalable
better strokes (outlines)

PhotoAdvanced2 on youtube has very good beginner tutorials for IS

you could draw the shape freehand with the Bezier Tool or add nodes to an ellipse and then shape the nodes and segments

EDIT:
here is a very quick and dirty imitation i made in 10min with Inkscape

font is PalookaBB, you can get some good free comic fonts, here:
http://blambot.com/
i think the font used in your reference image is Badaboom:
http://www.dafont.com/badaboom-bb.font?text=KAPOW

when you doubleclick the text, the arrows transform and you can rotate the text
