Issue opening Gimp
Hello, Sorry to pester you all with this, but I've looked through the forums and found no solution to my problem with gimp. Every time I try and start it, it goes to try and update "Tag Cache" and then it crashes and gives me an error. It used to run fine, then I got an Intuos tablet and I got a whole lot of problems that followed after. I uninstalled the tablet and it's drivers to the best of my ability to no success. Any type of help at all would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • remove tags.xml
  • remove anything you added (patterns, brushes, gradients...) by renaming/moving the corresponding directories. If you added them in the Gimp install tree instead, remove them as well. If that works move them back little by little
  • rename the profile directory. If that works, move things back little by little.

I havn't added any addons, this is all from starting up a clean vanilla install, so I wasnt able to do the second thing you suggested, and I made a new directory, but when it started again it just remade a new one, and crashed at the same point again

How would I go about starting gimp in command prompt? Are you refering to Gimp-console-2.8.exe? Or are you refering to windows command prompt? And for the shortcut, just add -verbose to the end so it says "Gimp 2-verbose" because that doesnt seem to be working. Thank you for helping be by the way.

You can add flags to the end of the "Target" of your shortcuts that do things, like create bug logs (verbose)

make sure you add two hyphens to the flag --verbose, then follow the instructions below to get it to work

http://fahwiki.net/index.php/How_do_I_ad..._client%3F

*Scroll down some then note the top-right image, thats where you want to put "--verbose"

outside of the .exe quotes for example:

Code:
Target: ["C:\User\folders\Gimp2\bin\gimp.exe" --verbose]

Then after you run the shortcut, remove the flag to return your gimp to default running.

so you Gimp dies before/while parsing sessionrc. Have you got such a file in your Gimp profile? Is the directory itself writable?

I dont have sessionrc or any of the files mentioned after, and by directoy itself writable, is that something I have to directly enable? I went into the properites and keep resetting the read-only option and hitting apply, but when I run it again it gets to the same point, then crashes and re-fills in the read only box

Normally the directory should be writable, if your Windows setup is correct. It's easy to check, just create a file in it using the id that you use to run Gimp (normally the one that owns that directory).

I created a file in it and it didnt give me any problems, so it is able to create files and the sort inside of the folder
