Is there an easier way, to reach my goal?
Hello,

I'm trying to create, an image I had in the past. It has since been lost, and decided I would give Gimp a try. Here is an Image of what I would like to create. Please disregard the Rainmeter, and RocketDock items.

So I have both the background, and foreground images ready. I take my foreground image, add an "Alpha Channel", use the rectangle selection tool to make the far left rectangle 1st. then make 6px white border using "Stroke Selection", finally I cut the interior of the rectangle to show the "Alpha Channel". Great the first section is done, and that is where I come to a cross roads. I can manually create each rectangle using the grid, and pointer options, which seems like it will take some time to get it perfect. I was trying to search to see if there was an easier way.

I'm having problems trying to make identical rectangle cut outs. I have tried to copy and paste, but I can not figure it quite out. When I do, the borders done seem to match. I'm still searching the forums, and online. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Here's what I would do to achieve the same thing(a bit manual work, but it will look nice)
This way should get you more accurate borders

What you'll need:
-3 Layers
-2 layer masks (in order of steps)
-animer snipe,
-w bg,
-your wallpaper

First
1. Put your white bg layer "w bg" on the bottom for now ( well use it later)
2. Have "anime sniper" layer on top; wallpaper in the middle
3. Right-click layer "anime sniper" and click add layer mask
-Settings: Black(full transparency)
-The anime layer will have a new box on the right side, make sure its selected(click between boxes to see)
4. With rectangle selection tool, select/make first square, then add squares with shift + click...push delete after.

5. click the "w bg" layer(in the layers window) & copy the selection and paste it to a new layer
- name it "white bg" (you can delete your other "w bg" layer now)
- The new "white bg" layer should be on the top now (see screenshot)

6. right-click layer "white bg" on layers window > Add layer mask > black(full transparency)
7. Start making a square selection on top of each square/rectangle with rectangle select tool (shift+click)
8. push delete, and should now have white boxes, identical in size to the ones you made earlier
-apply layer mask to "white bg" layer ONLY.

9. With the box selection still active, go to Select > Shrink
- value: anywhere from 2 to 4, click ok
10 push delete, now you have a perfect border around each square

Flatten the image if your done Smile

Thank you iforstyle007& Ofnuts, for your assistance on this matter. I'm going to try both recommendations once I get off work. I really appreciate your help. Take care.

This information was spot on, thanks again for your time. This made it 100% easier, and better looking. Here is a Alpha build of the pic.

I'm also going adjust the spacing, and widths of the windows a bit. Thanks again for all the help.
