Intelligent background blur?
Is there a clever tool or plugin that can automatically create a blurred background to a portrait based on multiple images?
There are techniques for calculating the depth map from pitures taken from differetn locations. EG the Google camera on Android phones can do this by taking 2 pictures. You have to move the phone up a bit for the second picture

RE: Intelligent background blur?
A clever "way" to automatically blur the background:

Duplicate your image layer.

1.
Filters > Gaussian Blur
- Increase until the backgroundis blurred (don't worry about the subject/foreground, we'll fix that soon enough)

2.
-Either change the layer mode of your duplicated layer (under the opacity bar on the layers window)

- Or use the Eraser eraser tool and carefully erase to reveal the foreground parts.
(Go from big size brush to medium or small for edges.

It doesn't have to be to perfect, you can change the opacity to hide any sharp edges. Or do one more, light guassian blur.

RE: Intelligent background blur?
Thanks. But I'm looking for something that uses the difference between 2 or more shots like the Google camera app does. I thought somebody my have created a plugin that does this already. Apparently not yet.

RE: Intelligent background blur?
Never come across a plugin for DOF using several shots.

There is the the usual (focusblur) for a single image http://registry.gimp.org/node/8236
seem to recall a similar filter in the Gmic plugin
and
Using a stereo pair a plugin to form a depth field http://registry.gimp.org/node/10217

I think that could be used with the focusblur plugin

RE: Intelligent background blur?
Thanks. How to create the difference layer? Use one as a layer mask?
