indexing into 8-bit

indexing into 8-bit
Hi everyone, when i try to index an image with less than 16 colors (with default indexing settings), gimp automatically reduces it to 4-bit. The program that i'm using only accepts 8-bit images though. Is there any way i can change it to 8-bit?

I'm sorry but as it says in the forum announcements, this forum has been DEAD for a long time.
