If I have a .jpg image that I want to insert another image into can I? I viewed a tutorial of Gimp 2.8 and I followed the tutorial step by step. But, when I copied the image after deleting the background I was unable to paste it into the .jpg image. The image I used to delete the background from was a .bmp image. The version of Gimp I have installed is Gimp 2.8.10. I assumed that even though the tutorial I had viewed was of Gimp 2.8 that the instructions would still work in Gimp 2.8.10. Believe me this is all new to me and any help I receive will be most appreciated.

BMP vs JPEG ought to be irrelevant.

What do you mean by "unable to paste it into the .jpg image"? what did you do exactly?

Set these two images aside and train yourself on two unimportant images to see how copy/paste works (if you are using copy/paste). I spent my first 3 months of gimping with a single image: one white background and 3 rectangular layers or various sizes and colors.

I followed these steps:
1 Opened jpg image (this is the picture I wanted to add something to)
2 Opened bmp image (this image included something I wanted to add to the jpg image)
3 Selected New Toolbar
4 Selected Magic Wand
5 Selected background area from the bmp image I wanted to remove
6 Selected Layer
7 Selected Transparency
8 Selected Add to Alpha Channel
9 Hit Delete Key (delted the selected background area)
10 Selected Magic Wand (to see if anything else needed to be deleted)
11 Ctrl Z to exit out of the Magic Wand (it did not appear as though this worked)
12 Ctrl C to copy image to clipboard (this did copy something to the clipboard, not sure what)
13 Minimized the bmp image
14 Maximized the jpg image
15 Ctrl V to paste image to jpg image (nothing happened)

These steps worked perfectly in the tutorial. Any ideas?

RE: Images
I don't believe I am going to pursue this much further. I viewed the tutorial several times even pausing the video and taking notes. Thought I understood everything according to the video but even following the video and my notes precisely it would not work as it did in the video. Thank you for your help but I guess I am just to dense to understand.
