image preview window
Recently installed GIMP 2.6. Working through the help file I downloaded. When saving an image after I indicated a file name on a jpeg image and enter save, the next window that comes up allows me to select the quality of image, file size to save it at. There is a option to show preview in image window. I have checked that box but am unable to view image, no window shows. Have program loaded into 2 computers, one with Windows XP and the other with Windows 7. Same result with both, no image window that would allow me to view the changes in image that different files sizes would generate. I have set the show image window as default but still does not open. Any ideas?

RE: image preview window
Thanks for the reply. I will try to understand. Hard to see those images you show. Tried expanding them to show more information but lost detail. I do not believe I have seen the windows you display. Looking at 4.3 of the help information image 3.22 show a pop-up window that should display if preview in image window is checked? It isn't working, apparently, on either computer, windows xp or windows 7, Not sure where the show jpeg preview you mention and display is found. Can't find it on the window of the original image. Sorry, but thanks again for your reply.

Click on the images, your browser will show them full-size (1037x523).

These are the regular JPEG Save dialogs, with "Advanced options" expanded, in Gimp 2.6.

I'm not sure you are looking at an up-to-date doc. The Gimp 2.4 help (which has been part of some early 2.6 packages) as well as the 2.6 help say (chapter 6, section 1.2.2, with figure 6.3):

Preview in image window
Checking this option causes each change in quality (or any other JPEG parameter) to be shown in the image display. (This does not alter the image, though: it reverts back to its original state when the JPEG dialog is closed.)

Note that the option name as well as the explanation says that the preview is in the same window as the image you save, and not in a new window.

Thaks ofnuts. Will try to access the advanced options. I believe my version of GIMP is current. Dowloaded it from links from the gimp.org site. Thanks again.
