Image Map Not Showing
I am trying to use an image map on two links to open up an email. I have followed the tutorial steps in:

http://www.createblog.com/all-other-tuto...-gimp-2.6/

where you copy and paste the following bolded code in the index.htm file:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><!-- #BeginTemplate "/Templates/UK.dwt" --><HEAD>

<SCRIPT language=JavaScript src="/Templates/milonic_src.js" type=text/javascript></SCRIPT>
<script language=JavaScript>
if(ns4)_d.write("<scr"+"ipt language=JavaScript src=Templates/mmenuns4.js><\/scr"+"ipt>");
else _d.write("<scr"+"ipt language=JavaScript src=Templates/mmenudom.js><\/scr"+"ipt>");
</script>

<b><h3>Baker Wins Ensign Nationals</b></h3>
<p>With a full set of UK-Halsey sails, Jonathan Baker of Austin, Texas won the 44-boat Ensign National Championship. The regatta was the 50th annual event and was held on Lake Canandaigua, in upstate New York on August 12-16, 2011.</p>
<p>It was a true family affair for Baker with his younger sister Sarah Faust on bow, brother-in-law Eric Faust as tactician and longtime family friend Tom Groll as trimmer. “Our boat was built in 1964 and it’s the same boat my sister and I learned to sail on,” said Baker. “When our father passed away and left us the Ensign, we knew we had to keep racing it in his honor. That makes this win even more special for us.”</p>

<p>Conditions for the event ranged from 5 to 15 knots with plenty of shifts. “This was my first time to sail the Nationals,” noted Baker. “We knew that our boat speed was competitive in local events, but we really had no idea how we would stack up on the national level. Our UK sails were great. We had speed with the top of the fleet in all conditions. Accelerating out of the lulls was key, and our genoa really had the power to get us up to speed quickly. I’m very happy with the sails.”</p>
<p>The racing was very competitive with five boats in position to win the regatta going into the last race. In the final race, Baker’s team managed a perfect start and showed great boat speed throughout to take the victory with a comfortable 8 point margin.</p>

Any ideas for an exasperated person?

RE: Image Map Not Showing
This bears no relationship with Gimp, this is a plain HTML problem.

First, the HTML should be valid because if I load your file in Firefox, it works for me. The imagemap is functional but it will be hard to tell because the sensitive areas are shifted about a hundred pixels to the right (only the "h" of Spanish is clickable text)).

If your are getting the file through the server, having the problem likely comes from your server serving the file with a content-type of "text/plain" instead of "text/html", so your browser just displays the text instead of interpreting it as HTML. This can be a configuration problem (for instance because you use an unforeseen file extension, such as ".HTML" while your server only knows about ".HTM" to generate the "text/html" header). If you are loading the file locally from the disk, this may also happen if the extension isn't HTM or HTML.

If you use Firefox, check the Firebug debugger or the LiveHTTPHeaders tools to check the HTTP headers in the response from the server.

Btw, your header image, with all that text, should really be a PNG. Or better, use decent HTML, and put real text links in front of a text-less background image. Imagemaps are so 1990's Smile

Thanks for your excellent thoughts. What exactly do you mean by "real text links?" All I am trying to do is click on English or Spanish and open a mailto. I am open to new ideas.

RE: Image Map Not Showing
I mean using something like
Code:
<div style="background-image: url(../images/background-without-any-text.png);">
(other stuff you want to appear over you banner image)
<a href=mailto:blabla">English</a> <a href=mailto:blabla">Spanish</a>
</div>
But then the HTML seems to be coming out of some ancient authoring software, and requires a major overhaul (have a look at <DIV> and CSS style files). But this would be better suited for a HtmlForums.com (best place for this kind of help would be http://stackoverflow.com).
