ico with transparent backgrounds still gets white border <Solved>
Hi!
Im trying to make an icon (.ico) with transparent background. Im adding an alpha channel and deletes the fields that are supposed to be transparent. Everything looks just fine in Gimp, but when putting the icon on the desktop there appears a white border around my icon. The transparency works within the icon. Im using Windows Vista 32bit. In Exporer it looks like it has a border too. Any ideas? Regards Matt |

. Just realized something though. I copied the icon to a computer with Windows 7 64bit, and on that one it looks just fine. So it has something to do with Vista. Any ideas? Matt |

RE: ico with transparent backgrounds still gets white border
Im making icons for a software Ive been developing and its supposed to run under XP, Vista and 7, so I really need to solve this somehow.
When I think about it this is not the first time Ive had trouble with transparency in Vista. Some time ago I was developing a Windows programs GUI with transparency, and what worked in XP and 7 then did not work in Vista... |

But given the dwindling market share of Vista why bother? ![]() |

RE: ico with transparent backgrounds still gets white border
I feel a bit stupid because I just found out that Vista puts a white border to any image file you put on the desktop, including .ico files. Because when I compiled the .ico file into my softerware project and put the .exe on the desktop, the white border disappeared (the same if I just change icon on an exe on the desktop).
Thankyou for your involvment. Case closed. |
