I have four questions
Hi, I'm a volunteer insect collector for a museum in Ecuador and I also photograph my specimens to send out to specialists worldwide. I've used PhotoShop for years but can't afford it for my present second-hand laptop (prior one was stolen). I just installed GIMP last night and need to get up to speed quickly.

Here are my questions:

How do I change the language on GIMP? (For some reason it installed in Spanish.)

How do I save in JPG format on GIMP? (At present all image files end in xcf.)

How do I name a duplicate file in GIMP? (At present any duplicate file name reads "sin nombre" which means "without name.")

Can I establish a repeat destination for duplicate files in GIMP like I can in PhotoShop? (At present I have to select the destination each time I try to save a duplicate.)

RE: I have four questions
Hi and welcome.

Q1. Change your language via Edit>Preferences. Then look under Interface.
Q2. Use File->Export to save your images as .jpg .png etc.
Q3. Q4. I don't fully understand these questions...perhaps somebody else will know what you mean by duplicate.

RE: I have four questions
3) Save them once...

4) as far as I can tell, for images that have no associated file yet (new or duplicate images), the first save opens in the last directory in which you saved a file in the same Gimp session. Otherwise, the file save dialog has a "Recently used" location, which will contain directories to which you saved images recently (latest on top). If you often save to the same directories, you can also add these favorites in the leftmost column in the open/save/export dialogs to access them quickly.. There is also a way to change the default directory for the open/save/export dialogs.

Excellent! I think I've got everything down now :-)
