How to stretch 471 pixel wide logo to 2500 pixels wide
Greetings;

I have got a logo that is 451 x197. It has a resolution of 72 px. I am trying to increase the resolution so that I can use the image for business cards and letterhead.

I need for the image to have a width of about 2500 pixels. If I scale the image to 2500 pixels the edges look pixelized or blurry.

My question is: Is there a way that I can make the 471 px logo stretch to 2500 px and still have sharp edges?

If there is can someone give me suggestions about how that can be done.

Thanks.

You will never get something decent by stretching the bitmap logo. You have to transform it into paths that can then be scaled at will without losing sharpness.

You have two options:

1) create manually paths that follow the edges in that drawing. This is not that hard with Bezier curves. This is what I'm doing to rescale a 4-inch branding tinplate to t-shirt size print (50 convoluted letters to redraw), and your logo is very simple (under one hours for someone familiar with the Paths tool, count two to three if you have to get acquainted to it.

2) redraw it from scratch. The drawing is a bunch of imbricated circles, rotated and flattened for perspective. The letters just require finding the right font (extract them and submit them to font identification sites, such as whatthefont.com).

You can also mix the methods (red arcs with 1) and logo with font)

If you stick to method 2) the best tool to handle paths is Inkscape but Gimp can also do it.

ofnuts;

Thanks for responding to my question.

I think that I will try the paths with Bezier curves method.

Thanks again.

Actually drawing the arcs from scratch isn't that hard:

- You use two circular selections (inside one is substracted), to get a crescent. You need to carefully prepare the necessary guides (ie where the circle center will be, and how far you drag)
- Intersect that to get half a crescent
- Selection to path
- Some quick fiddling in the path editor to restore a clean pointy arc
- Duplicate that path, on one of the halves: swap vertically and horizontally
- Adjust position
- Merge the two paths.

- Repeat for inner arcs (something I haven't done)

- Merge inner and outer arcs paths (or "link" them)

- Using the Rotate tool, rotate that path 45°

- Using the Scale tool scale vertically to 41%

Your path for the arcs is ready, you can scale it to any size (actually I worked with a 600x600 initial circle, you can use something bigger, the pointy parts of the arc may not even need adjustment.

To draw the arc, path so selection, and bucket-fill:
