How to merge two backgrounds?
I have a day sky that has trees in it and basically what I want to do is delete the spaces where the day sky is & replace it with a picture of a starry night sky so that the end result is the night sky peeking through the trees.

Help?

How uniform is your sky? Any clouds? Can you post the picture (or at least a part of it?)

RE: How to merge two backgrounds?
Not really a good image because the white in the background is ither the sky or the buidings.

A quick one is to:
- Layer/Transparency/Add alpha channel (if it's grayed out i's OK, not needed then)- start the magic wand
- Shift click on the areas that you consider the sky to add them to the selection
- Select/Grow (by one pixel)
- Select/Feather (by two pixels)
- Delete (checkerboard shows up in the holes)
- Load you starry sky (File/Open as layers)
- In Layers dialog, drag to under the trees layer

There are more advanced methods, but given the mixed background, they won't give much better results, unless you also want to remove the buildings.

RE: How to merge two backgrounds?
quickly made a little video, 2.5 mins

that is one way (of many) for removing a sky. I made a new background but if you have a photograph of a night sky you would import it as the bottom layer. You can also 'tweak' the selection using the quick mask function if buildings are included in your selection.
