How To Make Images Look Older
Hi guys,

Just downloaded the latest GiMP for Windows 7 and I have a question.

I would like to make images look like they came from a website in the 90s. How can I go about doing this?

I'm not very good at explaining but the images from those days had a certain lo-quality look to them. Any ideas, guys?

In the 90s the pictures on websites where mostly scanned(*), with a very poor color balance. Unlike compact digital cameras, the depth of field of the cameras was rather narrow, so focusing was even more a hit or miss things than it is today, and the low ISOs of amateur color film led to slow speeds and motion blur (you willl find filters for both ailments in Filters/Blur).

The modern equivalent is called "lomography" (processing to emulate the poor results of "Lomo" brand cameras). Google it up, you'll find tutorials.

(*) My first digital Camera, a 3MPix Olympus that cost 500€, was purchased at the end of 2001 Smile

Thanks, I found a script that does this.

What about actual computer graphics? Any idea on making them retro looking?

Pixelize lightly (Filters/Blur/Pixelize) and reduce the number of colors (colors/posterize)?
