Question How to make diff (rectangular) selections on diff layers?
Can one make different (rectangular or otherwise) selections on different layers?

[eg, I need to "fade" parts of an image in one layer, and need to "blur" different parts of the same image in a different layer... and want to save the different selections (each for "fade" and "blur" layers) for easier, future edit.]

Thoughts?

When you have a selection, "Select/Save to channel" saves the selection in a channel (as "selection mask copy" but you can/should rename it. And in the Channel list you can right-click on a channel and make it the selection (or add/subtract/intersect with current selection).

RE: How to make diff (rectangular) selections on diff layers?
Very handy, thx much.

Haven't yet been able to re-apply a saved selection (from a channel) back to an (active) layer. Will have to fiddle with that a bit. Any suggestions, or anything specific I may be "missing"? (Maybe simply need to read the docs better...)

RE: How to make diff (rectangular) selections on diff layers?
The selection isn't applied to a layer but to the image. But when you work on a layer, only the part that is under the selection is changed. In other words the pixels you work on are the intersection of the selection and the current layer.
