How to make a layer transparent
Hi, I want to combine two images together, so how do I make one layer semi-transparent?

In the Layers dialog (Ctrl-L) there is an "Opacity" slider that acts on the selected layer (which should be the top one in your case...).
But I don't see many cases where this is enough. Blending two images is usually somewhat more complicated, partial opacity is just the tip of the iceberg.
