How to majke a GIF look less pixeleted using the sharpen tool
So,I just learnt how to make GIFs yesterday but I'm not satisfyed with the huge quality loss after scaling the layers and sharpening them. What to do so it will look less crappy?
What should I do? Also I want to mention that I'm doing gifs from videos using KMPlayer to extract the frames and the videos are in mp4 format and HD quality. I post the GIFs on Tumblr.
Thank you to anyone who helps me Heart

If you use Gimp for the whole thing:
- keep the image in RGB mode for most editing, and if you have indexed images convert them to full RGB first. Don't mix color-indexed images from varoius sources, the color maps will conflict.
- scale down next-to-last, maybe sharpen a bit then (but IMHO for animated images it does more harl than good).
- convert to indexed last "Image/Mode/Index" and specify a good dithering algorithm (Floyd-Steinberg...), and don't do any further editing until you export as GIF.

Otherwise:
- keep the image RGB
- do the editing
- export all frames as individual PNGs (there are scripts/plugins for this)
- use some external utility to convert your sequence of PNGs to modern animated GIF.

Call me dumb, but I don't know how to convert images to RGB.. aren't they RGB by default? Also scale next-to-last it's confussing me.. I do scale all the frames at once. As for index I use Positioned but I'll try Steinberg as well... So would you please be so kind and explain that to me again? Like with more details >.<
Sorry for bothering you Confused
