How to get rid of selected tools
Extreme beginner here:

When I choose a tool and do whatever it does, how do I get rid of it afterwards ? I try enter, escape, etc. Nothing. Like the scissors, or the path tools, they even mess up my creations after I close down the program and come back in.

thanks !

RE: How to get rid of selected tools
You can't... there is always an active tool in Gimp. You can choose an innocuous one like the Measure tool (Measure).

You may want to save that once for all so that when you open an image, you are using that innocuous tool by default. To do so:
- Select the tool you want to default to
- "Edit/Preferences" -> Input devices
- Un-check "Save input device settings on exit"
- Press "Save input device settings now"

If you use a tablet, there is one active tool per "pointing device" (typically: the mouse, the tablet stylus, the table eraser tip of the stylus) so you have to select the tools for each before saving the settings.
