How to fill a template with a repeating texture?
Total noob here, so please speak slowly.

I have clothing templates for use in the game Secondlife. I want to fill in the white area with a seamless pattern texture and change how many times it repeats. Will Gimp recognize the edges of a template, if it is a PNG format? Or does it need to be a Photoshop file?

Please format responses like this:

Please also explain each step, as I do not yet know the Gimp vocabulary.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

You don't know the Gimp vocabulary but we don't all know the Second Life vocabulary. Would you have a sample template?

What I meant by vocabulary is the names of all the effects and what they do. I was not trying to be insulting. I've attached an example template. The white areas become the fabric and buttons on the mesh pants. I'd like to fill in the white areas with a texture and have it repeat to create a seamless pattern. Will Gimp recognize the outline edges and let me fill in only the white areas?
Blank Template: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b251/w...enders.png

I hope this helps?

RE: How to fill a template with a repeating texture?
Hi fitchwoodrunner,

while your waiting on Ofnuts reply,

Hmm... You can try layer modes
1. Open your template image
Then paste the texture into the same image
"Edit > Paste as new layer"
You should now have two layers (one with your texture) (the other your black & white template)

2. On the layers window, make sure the template is on top of the texture layer
3. Change the layer mode (under opacity) to "Multiply" or "darken"
4. Proceed to flatten image (Right-click layer, Flatten)

Last, save in the format you need.
