How to export as png
This is insane. I am trying to put a white background layer in a transparent png resize it and save it as a png for the last 2 hours. Unfortunately it is impossible to do it. Gimp says unable to save. What have you done to gimp to make it this stupid? I am using the export option. Im on mac 10.9

I'm on a Mac 10.9.1, using gimp 2.8.10 Steps to reproduce - Open a png - make some edits (you can skip this step) - do export as png (i save the file as a NEW file so that it doesn't try to write to something that is read-only, in a different folder (desktop)) - result: http://postimg.org/image/ycn29u43t/ btw I've used gimp before, on mac and windows and it wasn't this stupid, I didn't have any problems with it. It also allowed me to save as png. To me this new version is a huge step backwards. |

RE: How to export as png
It only happens for png. Jpeg works. A workaround I found is to:
- make a new image with the same size I want to open - do a File -> Open as layers, select the png I want to edit. - - make some changes. - export as png. |

RE: How to export as png
I think the work around points to a permission problem with the original file(s).
Making a new file and it will be read-write and owned by you. I can get this in linux by setting the file to read only. ![]() Obviously will not export back to itself but does export to a new location. So maybe it is an ownership issue. Strange that it is for all png's though. ** https://www.gimp-forum.net/ now answering questions** |

Yep, could be that. There are a few reports for other applications that fail to save in OSX. typical http://www.macworld.com/article/2038430/...-save.html ** https://www.gimp-forum.net/ now answering questions** |
