how to draw to scale
I can't find out how to correctly set the page to allow me to draw to correct scale.

I am trying to design a new dashboard in my motorhome. The available space is 550mm x 290mm

I want to be able to draw a rectangle that is accurately scaled, so that I can then draw in the guages to scale as well. What I need (I think) is to be able to draw an object by entering in the actual measurements and then know that it is correct size in relation to the dashboard rectangle.

I have no idea if that makes sense, but maybe someone can help. Or perhaps guide me to a more suitable program on linux for this sort of drawing.

Cheers
