how to create logo for watermark purpose?
hi, I am a newbie but I am not a student, I don't want to invest too much time learning. Just a quick one - how to create logo for watermark purpose? My logo will require some transparency because it will overlay my the image of my products. I don't want a logo with rectangular boundary. Any help is appreciated!

EDIT: This is the logo I made from Ms paint. I want a similar logo, but with a smooth and nice boundary, and I want the text be surrounded by white lines so that the text could be more visible.

RE: how to create logo for watermark purpose?
Briefly

Make your logo with a transparent backgound and export as a png file.

Using Gimp multi-window mode here so you can see everything

Click-drop-n-drag from the layer to the product. You can also copy-paste-as-layer if you want to stay in single window mode.

Use the move tool to position your logo. Once you have finished any 'borders' are only in Gimp as information.

That is the basics, Then all about making a nice logo that is not pixellated
If you want to do a load of images with the same logo, look for the gimp batch plugin BIMP (referenced in your other posts)

Arrggg...

as above or
Really it needs recreating, either in Gimp or if you can spare the time, become a student again and pick up a bit of Inkscape.
The logo will be better created as a vector.

You can use the original as a template. http://i.imgur.com/WzgzOso.jpg

Looks like this with the original removed http://i.imgur.com/pD44n9o.jpg
You can put an outline on the test as well - I forgot.

Exported as a png ( I closed Inksacape down without saving as an svg, silly me) http://i.imgur.com/2UFIvqk.jpg

Then as a logo in your work of art. http://i.imgur.com/ky1IFMu.jpg

Yeah. exactly, it should be something I want, but the text should be like the one suggested in Post #4. It will become more visible because Chinese text is often difficult to be viewed.

- Layer>Transparency>Alpha to selection
- Select>Grow (and give the width of the white border you want)
- Add new transparent layer (*)
- Drag to under the text layer
- Bucket fill the selection on that layer
- Merge the two layers (or do Layer>New from visible, and then hide the other two).

(*) there is a pitfall: the text layer is a tight fit around the text, especially on the sides. So it will not be big enough to hold the border. When you create the layer for the border, make sure it is the size of the image, and not the size of the text layer (otherwise fix by Layer>Layer to image size)

As I create a NEW file in GIMP after assigning its width and height, it is a white board. I can see the transparent layer. How to create a transparent layer as you stated in the first step

I am able to follow the first few step until...

- Add new transparent layer (*)
- Drag to under the text layer
- Bucket fill the selection on that layer
- Merge the two layers (or do Layer>New from visible, and then hide the other two).

Now in the stage of Select and Grow. I don't know how to ''Add new transparent layer and drag to under the text layer...."

Please be more simple. Thanks
