How to create a script for resize & darken?
Hello, I'm new to this arena of gimp. In the past, I've used it to edit pictures for my web sites. Now I am wondering if I can create a script (which I think is what I need) to perform a meticulous task on 40 separate photographs.

The web site I'm working on is http://scenicdesktops.com/

As you can see, the individual images have all been re-sized into 3 different versions, a thumbnail, a darkened thumbnail (seen when hovering the curser over) and the actual lager downloadable wallpaper image.

It's time to update the entire site. I have a whole lot of new photos, and have edited earlier ones.

Last time, I resized every photo 3 separate times, and had to create a blackened overlay for the darkened thumbnail and set the opacity for 20%. Every. Time. This time around, I would like to automate this process, so I can select each picture (perhaps even batch-select) and have it do the same process, resulting in 3 images for every one, that I want it to do.

Is a script what I want to do here? How do I go about this?

A script yes, with Gimp, no. Have a look at ImageMagick

Sounds promising. It appears that ImageMagick is already installed in my distro.

How difficult do you think this might be? Any pointers?

IMHO finding the right parameters for ImageMagick (see 'convert' or 'mogrify') is a bit less difficult than working out a Gimp script that runs in batch mode. But ImageMagick has a support forum where you can ask questions.

Sounds good. I'll give that forum a try.

I was able to get some help on ImageMagick forums.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction
